Mice

Mice Pest Control

Mice contaminate food, cause structural damage and carry parasites and diseases such as salmonella and Hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS).  Both of these diseases can be fatal.

The most common species found in houses are the house mouse and deer mouse.  Most house mice have a totally dark gray coat and five to seven inches long (including a near hairless tail that can range from three to four inches).  Deer mice have a white underside and a furry tail. Deer mice are the carriers of Hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome.

Most mice are active at night but will occasionally venture out during the day.  They tend to travel near walls and through cabinets or drawers. They can enter any area if afforded a space of at least one-quarter of an inch.

You know that you have mice if you find small, black rice-shaped droppings and sometimes gnaw marks.  House mice have a musky odor and this attracts other mice to the area.  It is necessary that you sanitize any area in which a mouse has been found.   Every effort should be made not to breathe in the dust from droppings.
